As the nights grow cold I plunge myself into my narcissistic depths It's easier than losing grip on my heart And giving it to you I love myself harder to unsee your longing for me I relish my pain and pleasure of solitude Face to face with a mirror, I shine. But over my shoulder you stand tall With a hole in your heart so big it daunts me With a love so desperate I cower like a coward I am too small for you My kisses cannot fix your eyebrows bent in gloom So I unsee you I unfeel your shadow resting on my back I unknow you and focus on myself Narcissism, my shield of arms, Covers my lonely heart as the nights grow cold I stifle tears, I watch you go.
Violent colours dancing on your face
I watch from afar
I look away
Violent colours stabbing my heart
The leaves are swaying
Hair strands gripped on to your sweaty face
I remember your anecdotes
I remember you doted on me
I remember it all
How did I have no eyes back then?
The poets and singers lament my foolishness
He is standing next to you
My stomach is upset with rage
As he removes the silk strands from your face
I mourn our days
Sunlight leaking through leaves
My once-negligent heart now twisting and turning
Oh what I wouldn’t give now
To have it all back
I look at my palms and I look at your face
You and your new friend begin to move away
I am empty with a shell for a heart,
Cursing myself for letting you go
Wondering about how could I not know
I cannot bear staying apart.
Wear a brown shirt for me
I'll find a white flower for you
With petals broad enough for me to scribble
"I love you"
In black ink
Or maybe with some kohl.
Will you let me put some under your eyes?
Put the flower in your chest pocket
You've always loved lilies, I know,
And flash a smile at me
So that I can call you my
Textbook of love.
Remember that tattered book
With brown cover
Short stories and poems inside
English Reader Class IX?
No, I didn't know you then.
I didn't know what love was
But I knew what it might be.
Early butterflies in my belly
For a boy I sat beside
And this one poem in that one brown book.
"If thou must love me, let it be for nought
Except for love's sake only."
Now you, you, yes, you
My book of poetry,
My song of love,
I love you for love's sake only.
You are the textbook definition
And I can read between your lines
This book can have a miserable ending
It can break my heart into bloody shreds
But I'll read it again and again
My brown textbook man
Look at me with your smudgy kohl eyes
Consume me in your gaze
Devour me in your lines
While the music keeps playing
And the evening is bashful
I want to be a verse in your pages
While the fan whirls in this room
And the curtains bathe in dusky gold
I want to curl up inside your stanzas
We'll stay as one until words fall apart
Until it's too dark to read
Until the end of poetry.
Hibiscus. His name plays in my mouth My arms lie locked with his, We’re fighting
Hibiscus Anything to draw him in… I throw my glances- One at him and the next at the sea, Wait for a moment While I stare at another man
Hibiscus My cheeks are volcanic I can sense that you want me Hibiscus- Why are you running? To her?- who thinks I am just a boy A long lost friend-turned-rival-turned… Hibiscus!
Why can’t I be Patroclus? I’d die for you Without an epic to sing of my name Hibiscus, I will be yours Will you tell sunset about me?
Or will we be dried flowers Within yellow pages of our book The words never spoken aloud? Hibiscus, I want to be found.
I’m well aware of the stupidity of ‘falling in love’
Text, talk, date and mutual disappointments-
We’ve all been there, done that.
This time, let’s go all the long way to forever
I’m tired of having to stitch my heart again on my sleeves, love,
I’m too tired to mope around and weep,
Look at my eyes while I ask with a smile,
Will you be mine to keep?
If you wish so
I’ll take a break from my prosaic presence.
Let me whisper into your ears-
Oh my dear, you’re a sacred dream
The only God at my altar, my only King,
The strength of your ardent soul’s embrace
Exhilarates me in unspeakable ways.
Your smouldering eyes beckon me to stare
We look deep in our hearts, and our souls are laid bare.
Roses bloom as our fingers intertwine,
I become yours and you become mine-
Or, wait, are you too smart for my art?
Or too broken perhaps.
Sweet words sound soothing,
But I know too well, don't I?
How swiftly they lose their sweetness
And turn into twisted jokes,
Reverberating in the empty chambers of the heart at 3 a.m.
When I end up inevitably alone
When the darkness is quiet, and everyone’s long gone
Only the moon shining down on me through the window
Softly caressing me and my pain.
So, I ask again,
Before I tie up my heart and lock it to sleep,
Will you love me whole,
Will you be mine to keep?
