A bright pink Barbie bag hangs down his shoulder
He crouches the camera down
Just enough to catch the sea swooping under the sun,
His wife and his little kid
Jumping with a ribbon in her hand.
His picture is hazy perhaps
His camera blurred by a dirty finger
But the smiles are ear to ear.
What a lovely day and a lovely home
Possibly a lovely city too
I think to myself, while I sit with the certainty that
The light within me is waning.
Maybe if I had a bright pink Barbie bag
And a ribbon in my hand
And only homework in my head
I wouldn’t mind the sun swimming in my eyes.
